Spar, 2012 Dastro retail concepten
The new bakery section of Spar creates a customer experience that is similar to an open kitchen bakery that revolves around man made, fresh and high quality products. In contrast to other supermarket bakery’s the fresh goods are displayed in front of the ovens bringing them into the store. Customers can easily browse the fresh products while the staff can comfortably work the ovens and restock the shelves from behind.
By winning this pitch, an overhaul of the entire supermarket followed next. As an intern I was involved in consumer- and marketing-research, analysis, conceptual design and responsible for the design visualisations. Later on, as a freelance designer, I worked on the development of other store elements such as: the service counter, checkout counter, meat & cheese section, plants & flower and candy display furniture.
At Spar’s franchise day, a mockup of the new design was received positive by over 200 shopkeepers. Rollout in the Netherlands started in the New Babylon mall in The Hague and will continue in the next years.
The new design of Spar supermarkets was mentioned in InStore Magazine, 2013, no5. page 20
