Linked-In Café

design for retail course, Iain Lorraine- Bob Kloos, 2012 TU Delft
Internet café’s have become redundant due to the rise of mobile internet and common free Wi-Fi spots. To design a future version I had to understand the current users of Internet café’s and public Wi-Fi like in libraries, coffee houses or else. Conducting interviews and observation led to the most interesting group: flexworkers. They need a place other than home to work and network and are the true users.
Linkedin is a social media platform for business networking. Combining an internet café’s utilities with the services of Linked In is a clicks to bricks concept. In this philosophy an online/ digital service (clicks) is made tactual (bricks) through design. The LinkedIn environment is a place where professionals can get together to work, share resources and enjoy a new form of collegiality.
